It was written by David Cook and illustrated by Jeff Easley and Keith Parkinson, and was the first in a two module series concluding with X5: Temple of Death. It consisted of one 32 page booklet and cover folder with maps. After the introduction of wilderness adventures in X1: The Isle of Dread, X4 was the next module in the X series to fully embrace wilderness adventuring.
This conversion guide allows DMs to run the original module with 5th Edition rules and provides a reference sheet for encounters.
