Exalted and Profane FeatsPublisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Many feats are suitable for characters of all sorts, utilitarian and flexible in their nature. This tome is not for those feats. This collection of feats is intended for those characters with the purest hearts, adventurers who hold good in the utmost of their actions, and for whom the eradication of evil is not merely a goal, but a need.

Only intelligent characters of good alignment and the highest moral standards can acquire exalted feats, and only as a gift from powerful agents of good—deities, celestials, or similar creatures. These feats are thus supernatural in nature (rather than being extraordinary abilities, as most feats are).

A character must have the DM’s permission to take an exalted feat. In many cases, a ritual must be performed; often this simply amounts to a character swearing a sacred vow, for example, in the presence of a celestial being. A character who willingly and willfully commits an evil act loses all benefits from all his exalted feats. She regains these benefits if she atones for her violations

As with Exalted feats, Profane feats are designed with a very specific type of character in mind. In this case, those dark, evil souls favored by the Gods of darkness. Only intelligent characters of evil alignment can acquire Profane feats, and only as a gift from powerful agents of evil—deities, demons, devils, or similar creatures. These feats are thus supernatural in nature (rather than being extraordinary abilities, as most feats are).

A character must have the DM’s permission to take a profane feat. In many cases, a ritual must be performed; often this simply amounts to a character swearing an unholy vow, for example, in the presence of a fiendish being. A character who willingly and wilfully commits a good act loses all benefits from all his Profane feats. She regains these benefits if she later commits an atrocity.
