Sorcerous Origin: Stormborn

The Stormborn archetype adds a third playable origin story to the sorcerer class to go along with the draconic and wild magic origins. As a Stormborn Sorcerer, the elemental forces of thunder and lightning are in your blood. The Stormborn origin gives you access to certain spells from the Druid spell list, as well as a special wild shape of your own. If you are waffling between druid and sorcerer, then this archetype may well be for you.

Storm Elemental

Beginning at first level, your stormy inner nature can express itself in wild feline form. As a bonus action on your turn, you may change shape into a storm elemental that manifests in the form of a sleek purple-black panther. Your gear melds into the form with you, and you retain all your game statistics, except for the following: you gain proficiency in the stealth ability if you do not already have it; you have resistance to both lightning and thunder damage; and your base walking speed is 40 feet. In your elemental panther form, you may take the Attack action to make a melee spell attack, swiping with your electrically-charged claws. On a hit, you deal lightning damage equal to 2d4 + your Charisma modifier. The damage dice change to 2d6 at 5th level, 2d8 at 11th level, and 2d10 at 17th level.

You cannot cast spells in elemental panther form, but you can maintain concentration on a spell already cast. This form is considered a shapechange for certain spells and effects such as a Druid’s moonbeam. You revert to your original form if you become unconscious, if dispel magic is successfully cast targeting you, or after one hour has passed. You may choose to revert at any time without using an action. You must spend 4 sorcerer points each time you enter your elemental panther form beyond the first, and you regain the free first usage upon completing a long rest.
