THE FIFTH EDITION RULES ALLOW A spellcaster to cast many spells using a slot that is of a higher level than the default level of the spell. This document expands this rule to many spells which don't have that option in the Player's Handbook.
In some instances, keeping game balance and bounded accuracy in mind, casting some of these spells using a higher level slot results in mostly cosmetic changes. For other spells, using a higher level slot results in a longer range or duration, granting a spell the flavor of an earlier edition of the spell. Finally, higher level effects may improve spells generally seen as weak or lackluster by some players.
Improvement to this document will be made based on players’ feedback.
